Plan B from Outer Space?

As an indicator of just how loopy the global warming debate has become I submit the following article in which international experts having failed to convince world governments of the dire impacts of CO2 emissions are now suggesting that we mess with the climate via a series of bad science fiction movie plots.

So the solution to our apparent excess and meddling with natural systems such as the weather is actually to meddle with it some more, brilliant wish I'd thought of that!

Will the Steorn Storm start in February?

Steorn announced earlier this month that they would be starting a series of talks on the company and its Orbo technology.

Our 'talk' initiative is designed to give people within the technology development community an opportunity to understand the Orbo proposition and ask questions in a direct, face-to-face format.

The programme of talks starts in Dublin on the 17th December 2008 and will involve a sequence of talks in universities around the world, including the US/Europe and the Middle East.

The first talk delivered at Dublin University is available here, where CEO Sean McCarthy announces that the Orbo technology will be released to developers in February of 2009.

The q&a is very interesting as the same university lecturers who rubbished Steorn last time fall over themselves to explain their ignorance.

I love Tomb Raider. I remember playing the first one on my PC when I should have been studying Immunology. I saved Lara from pitfalls, ravenous dinosaurs and plummets from sheer cliff faces.

I failed Immunology.

So I was more than a little intrigued to see the first next-gen Tomb Raider released for the PS3 this month. I traded in my copy of Little Big Planet for it (sorry sackboy) and have been glued to the controller ever since.

Although only 720p the graphics are still stunning and as always the storyline and puzzles are second to none. One criticism is that the puzzles, although fun, are a bit simple compared to earlier episodes. This could be because I had selected the medium difficulty setting which brings up help icons on objects. I've started the game again at the highest difficulty setting.

The choice of which difficulty setting to select before embarking on your cyber journeys is not as simple a question as it may first appear.

For example when I played Call Of Duty : World at War for the first time I picked the hardest setting and promptly got nailed by Japanese sniper fire on the beaches of Iwo Jima.

If only life had a difficulty setting...

Fairfax Media reports that there are now additional questions about an allegedly wiped CCTV video system which would have captured Ms Lapthorne's last known whereabouts.

That video system was found to be suffering from constant power outages, however was in fine working order on the night of Ms Lapthorne's disappearance.

A worker at Club Fuego - where Ms Lapthorne was last seen alive - says the CCTV system was in working order on the night, despite claims by police that no data was recorded.
